Fort Lauderdale Air Show

Every May, the skies over Fort Lauderdale Beach fill with military jets and aerobatic performers for the annual Fort Lauderdale Air Show. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline the event, performing their precision formation flying over the Atlantic with the beach as a front-row seat. It's free to watch from the sand, making it one of the best-value events on the South Florida calendar.

When Is It?

The air show runs over a weekend in May each year. It's held annually over May 15–16. Check air.show/fortlauderdale for confirmed dates and performer lineups as the event approaches.

What to Expect

The Blue Angels are the main draw, but the full show includes civilian aerobatic performers, military demonstrations, and static aircraft displays. The action runs through the afternoon both days. Fort Lauderdale Beach Park is the main viewing area, but the show is visible from a wide stretch of beach in both directions.

Watching from the Beach

The beach is free and open. Arrive early to claim a good spot, especially on the weekend. Bring chairs, an umbrella, and plenty of water. The show is loud and low, so the closer to the water you are, the better the view. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, where our properties are located, sits just north of the main show zone and offers a quieter stretch of beach with a clear view of the flight path.

Tips

  • Parking near the beach fills up fast. Walk, bike, or rideshare if you can.
  • Sunscreen is non-negotiable. You'll be outside for hours in full May sun.
  • The Blue Angels typically perform in the afternoon. Check the schedule for exact times once it's published.
  • Beachfront restaurants and bars along A1A get packed. Make a reservation or plan to eat before the crowds arrive.
